When I was a kid, I don’t recall ever wearing any safety equipment at all while riding my bike or a skateboard, but I also recall a few times where I wish I had. I’m not even sure what is different today than back then but now it seems a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist pads are pretty standard. When Nathan wants to skateboard, he tells me “pad me up”.

The reason for the pads

  1. I’m with you . . . never wore a helmet, elbow or knee pads. As a matter of fact, rarely did I wear a seatbelt. I remember when I was about 3 smooshing myself behind the bucket seats in my parent’s corvette – that’s where I rode. Crazy we survived isn’t it!?
