Recently, I’ve had a chance to start shooting some local sporting events for an area newspaper. So far it’s only been basketball which I quickly found out is pretty difficult to shoot. With arms and legs flying everywhere and with the speed of the game, getting a good shot is a challenge. I’m finding that I’m keeping less than 10% of the photos as most of them are out of focus or poorly composed – again both attributable to the speed of the game. Oh yeah, another killer for basketball is the lighting in gymnasiums generally stinks. Getting a decent shutter speed with anything less than ISO1600 is impossible. That being said, It’s still been fun. I’m really looking forward to getting the opportunity to shoot some others sports. Here are the first 2 photos that were published and links to the articles.
