Did I mention it’s been hot in the previous post? Goodness, there is no let up. Today it was 101 with a heat index that felt like a sauna. We went to James and Tiffany’s house to celebrate Kyles birthday today and had a blast. Mostly played in the lake (which nearly felt like the world’s largest hot tub) and I shot a ton of photos. James and I conspired to dump a bucket of water on the ladies and capture it in photos which we were successful in doing (click on the photo below for proof). The kids had an all-around good time in the water or eating cake or in the water or finding candy during birthday games or in the water. Hot dogs on the dock for dinner and then more water time.
Keepin Cool Part 2
June 28th, 2009Keeping Cool
June 23rd, 2009On the way to the post office
June 1st, 2009So, on the way to the post office in Humble, we pass by a driving range. Today Nathan asked “how many people do you think is practihing.” I said that since it was in the middle of a hot day, I guessed 2. He couldn’t believe I picked such a low number and said “no way, them be more than 2!” I said “OK, how many do you think?” He thought for a minute and said… “3″. It was worth a good laugh.
By the way, there were TWO guys braving the heat practicing.
Memorial Day
May 27th, 2009We headed up to lake Livingston for the first time this year and enjoyed a day on the water. The weather was great and it wasn’t nearly as crowded as I had expected. I rode one of the two jet skis almost all day which I’m reminded of every time I get up to walk. Kayla rode with Amy or I quite a bit while Nathan needed some coaxing. Once I finally got him to ride with me and he was enjoying it, I asked him why he didn’t want to ride earlier and he said “I was just tricking you.” The kids also did a bunch of fishing with Amy’s parents. A good time was had by all.
Water’s Edge
April 24th, 2009I recently shot some couple/pregnancy photos for a friend of Amy. One of my favorite places to shoot is at the entrance to a neighborhood called Water’s Edge. Grass, fountains, columns, nice brickwork all in one spot. Very handy for local photographers. Before Amy’s friend arrived, I had a chance to shoot these.
Truth in Advertising
April 15th, 2009Jellystone (again)
April 15th, 2009Back in March we went to Jellystone park again, but with some friends this time. It was too cold to go in the pool although it was open and there were kids in it. We tested the water and… uh uh. There were plenty of other things to keep us busy and I think all of the kids had a good time. We adults stayed up way too late just talking around a “charcoal only” fire (because of a burning ban at the time).
Slacker
April 14th, 2009What a slacker I’ve been! Over a month without a post. Kayla started spring soccer recently and this season the kids voted for Gators as their team name. I’m trying to get her to be more aggressive in going after the ball this year as she is content to just run up and down the field all day long. I’ve also been trying to teach her a piece of advice I read from Wayne Gretzky. He said one of the keys for him his whole career was to was to “go where the puck is going to be, not where it is.” Great advice that translates well to soccer.
No More Training Wheels
February 23rd, 2009Nathan leaned how to ride a bike today!! We are officially done with training wheels at our house!. It happened almost like it did for Kayla. A few months ago, I took the training wheels off his bike because he thought he could do it. Like her, that didn’t last long and the training wheels went right back on. In the last couple of days, he has figured out how to ride Kayla’s scooter and he was doing great. Since the same skills are used in riding a bike, I decided to take the training wheels off again and give it another shot. I ran with him down the driveway and back again 2 times and that was it. It took him 2 minutes to figure it out. I literally spent a grand total of about 4 minutes teaching my kids how to ride a bike. I almost feel like I got jipped! He was so proud to be able to do it and I was in the middle of the driveway cheering like crazy (if any neighbors were home, they probably think I’m an idiot).
